Pink Pepper season starts in Brazil

Brazilian harvesting of Pink Pepper started this month under predictions of unfavourable conditions, according the reports received today drom the exporters.Weather, governement protection actions, among other factors, indicate that this crop could be reduced by some 50% compared to the 2006 year.
Exporters are reporting difficulties in collect reasonable quantities of good quality pepper, and, preview a drastic reduction in the output.
On the other hand the U$ dollar rate which plunged in the last weeks to below R$ 2,00 the first time in 11 years, mean that prices may soar.
Exporters are talking about a minimum US$ 14,00 per kg F.O.B Brazil for First Grade Pepper and preview these prices to rise further up as the harvest end. As usual some exporters may offer better prices for lower qualities or the balance remaining in stock since the 2006 crop.
