Confectionery sales rise as retailers expand operations
The Middle East has seen a marked increase in confectionery
imports with 686 million AED of product entering the region in
2008 according to Dubai Export Development Corporation.
Capitalising upon this demand the mass grocery retailer (MGR)
sector is also expanding in both domestic and international
markets with new initiatives from key retailers such as Al
Maya and Al-Othaim, Saudi Arabia’s second largest MGR.
With the UAE firmly established as the major import/export hub
connecting the international confectionery and snack
industries, suppliers, producers and retailers looking to
expand operations in the Middle East are invited to register
to attend the forthcoming Sweets Middle East
and Sweet & SnackTec Middle East trade shows.
The events take place at The Dubai
International Convention and Exhibition Centre (DICEC)
from 2 – 4 November 2009.
