Monthly shipments from different Brazilian ports. Quantities are in metric tonns

For a better comprehension it is important to consider that Brazil has two yearly crops. While the main production is in the area of Para State, usually shipped from the port in Belem from August to January / February, there's a secondary production from May till June / July in the states of Espirito Santo and Bahia which is shipped from the ports of Vitória and some from Salvador. The port of Santos in the state of São Paulo as well as Ro de Janeiro, ship merchandise from both origins.
There are also some truck shipments to Argentina, Uruguay and Chile

COMENTARY
2004-01-30
São Paulo, January 30, 2004

The final statistics for Brazilian Pepper exports for the year 2003 do not show significant changes in its regular behaviour.
The total quantity is almost the same as for 2002, just 1.5% higher.
The average price for the whole year 2003 was lower by 4% ( U$ 1,497)
The most significant change was the reduction of export for european countries by 15% in 2003. This could be explained by better prices from Vietnam, gaing market in Europe also due to better freight rates and continuos growing of europen confidence in Vietam shippers and product.
By the other hsnf Brazil has grown its sales to Eastern Europe, Arab countries and Africa.
Also the Mercosur market which bigger consummer is Argentina is recovering after a deep crsis of the last years.
