Cumin seed prices may initiate a downtrend 2009/06/16
We publish today
an extensive analisis about Cumin seed market for 2008-2009 elaborated by
AnandRathi Commodities.
According the report the total harvest is expected to be at around 180,000 tons
with some improvement in Turkish and Syrian crops to 10 Kton and 30Kton
respectively. This situation may definitively start a downtrend in
prices which have been above U$ 2,000 a ton since the middle of 2004.
During the period 2007-08 India reported a record cumin exports with major
importer being UAE. The rise in import numbers UAE was actually a strategy of
Indian exporters that pilled up their stocks in middle east countries to benefit
from the price rise due to failure of international crop (Syria).
