The Congress with the participation
of over 165
international delegates from over 40 countries and 300 Indian
delegates held in New Delhi past week, was reported to be a success with
substantial business concluded during the 3 days.
The Congress main issue was the India´s response to the challenge of the
changing World Spices Market. Several presentations were made on various spices.
As for the Black Pepper issues. Declining Origin Yield as f.i.Pepper productivity
declining in India mainly due to increasing average age of vines;Low
fertility of soil due to continuous cultivation; Higher disease
incidence; Farmers started cultivating alternate commodities; and higher cost of
production due to rising input
costs of labor and fertilizers in Vietnam and Brazil, were among the
most discussed factors
