Global Pepper Conference 2010 open Today
Representatives from the Food and Agriculture Organization, US Food and Drugs Administration, European Spice Trade Association, and American Spice Trade Association will present papers.
Pepper farmers from different states will participate in the technical session. Over 150 delegates from 24 pepper producing and trading countries, besides 170 Indian delegates, has registered to participate in the meeting
 
Supply squeeze to push up pepper
Pepper market appears to be hotting up on tight supply situation amid strong demand for the winter, Christmas and the New Year in the major consuming countries.It may be an undeniable fact that the world pepper output does not correspond to the growth in demand. The monthly average global demand is somewhere between 25,000 and 30,000 tonnes with an estimated annual growth of 3-5 per cent.
 
  
 
India migh become the cheapest origin
Because of that many brazilian exporters are out of market or offering for January/February shipments, when they expect the exitement to come down. No real price available after the last sales of ASTA at 4,800 fob on wednesday
Pepper futures down despite buying support  
Kochi Nov 4 - In the international market, all the origins are said to be firm. A report from Vietnam said the market was "more or less unchanged". Prices quoted were FAQ 500 g/l $4,650 fob and FAQ 550 g/l $4,900 fob HCMC. Vietnam white pepper doubled washed was quoted at $7,100 a tonne fob.
Vietnam - Pepper export turnover in Jan-Sep increases 25.4pct  
In the first nine months of this year, Vietnam has exported 97,814 tonnes of pepper, gaining $331.44 million, reducing by 9.4 percent in volume but up 25.4 percent in value compared with the same period of last year. Of which, the pepper exporters reported to reach September export volume of 5,983 tonnes valued at $26.38 million, down 24.6 percent in volume and 19.3 percent in value month on month.

Malaysia Pepper exports 2010  
In September 2010, Malaysia exported around 1,107 mt of pepper (886 mt of black and 221 mt of white) as against 893 mt - 739 mt of black and 154 mt of white - in September 2009, an increase of 24%

India´s Pepper exports  
In 2009, India exported 21,267 mt of pepper valued at Rs.3.328 billion as against 26,665 mt worth Rs.4,392 million in 2008, demonstrating a decrease of around 20% in volume and 24% in value.

USA Pepper Imports  
When compared to the US import during the corresponding period last year, which was at 42,355, there has been an increase by 10%. Import of black and white pepper increased, by 5% and 7% respectively. Appreciable increase was recorded in the import of ground pepper... 

  
Export of Pepper from Lampung
During July and August 2010, export from Lampung experienced a substantial increase, mostly from carry-over of the previous year's crop. During January - August 2010, Lampung has shipped 24,708 .mt of black pepper, as against 24,232 mt in the same period of last year...
 
Imports of Pepper into Germany  
In June 2010, Germany imported 2,525 mt of pepper (2,405 mt of whole and 120 mt of ground pepper) as against 2,326 mt (2,282 mt of whole and 44 mt of ground pepper) in June 2009. This quantity was also higher than 2,206 mt imported in May 2010.

Updated Pepper exports from Brazil  
During January - July 2010, total export from Brazil was 17,245 mt worth USD 53.04 million. When compared to exports of 16,084 mt valued at USD 37.87 million in the same period last year, an increase of 7% in terms of quantity and 40% in value were recorded

Spain pepper imports 
Vietnam emerged as the most important source of whole pepper for Spain, replacing Brazil to the second position. Vietnam supplied 46% and Brazil 39%. Import of ground pepper was mostly from Germany.
 
Seminar held by IISR warns: Climate change will affect various crops  
Dr M. Anandaraj, Project Coordinator (Spices), IISR, said in his presidential address that climatic changes affected the yield of various crops and also resulted in the emergence of invasive pests, vectors and pathogens.
